About us

Jabbakam was founded by James Wickes in 2009 to realize his vision of a new era in video surveillance technology and social networking. His goal and our mission is to put power in the hands of everyday people by combining the latest in IP camera technology with social networking.

We are a small team of developers, designers, thinkers and creatives who believe that only communities themselves understand their surveillance and security needs and can, with the appropriate tools, respond to those needs more effectively and more appropriately than outside agencies or organizations. We have, as such, devoted ourselves to the development of our product and service in order to help businesses, community groups, families and individuals do exactly that.

Jabbakam’s potential uses are wide-ranging, from more obvious application in the realm of home security to somewhat less obvious uses, for example, in the surveillance of wildlife and vulnerable pets. Jabbakam can also be used to monitor children, to guard precious works of art, and to monitor traffic or weather conditions and remote scientific or industrial outposts. New applications and possibilities for this technology are continually revealing themselves.

Early in the process of developing Jabbakam, we asked ourselves “How, as traditional communities dissolve, do we as a society go about building new ones?”

Social networking has revolutionized social infrastructures using the power of the internet to weave together communities and web-enabled appliances in what is known as the ‘Internet of Things.‘ By embracing a new generation of technology that makes surveillance simple, affordable and effective, communities can take more control of their own security and, inversely, of their own sense of freedom.

Jabbakam is the leader in the CMTV or community-monitored television movement. CMTV is socially-organised video surveillance technology which promises superior efficiency, lower cost and more security and reliability than traditional CCTV. It is this commitment to making video and IP technology accessible to individuals and communities that drives the People at Jabbakam as does our commitment to ensuring that users feel free and secure enough to share interests, ideas and video footage through our online networking platform.

We are committed to keeping the data entrusted to us private and secure, and our primary focus as we move forward, will be to help our users create their own sense of security and freedom in both their online and offline realities.
